Kelly Pool is a rotation-based pool table game, designed for small and large groups of players.
Each game consists of 2-15 players with 1-15 allocated ball numbers each, which depends on the number of players per game.
You can choose between 2 different rule sets:
Sink Balls You Win: Be the first player to sink all of your allocated ball numbers on the table, before anyone else.
Last Man Standing: Be the last player to have any of your allocated ball numbers on the table, even if there are any unallocated ball numbers still on the table.
Our Kelly Pool app assists you with keeping track of every shot for each of these rule sets.
These general and specialised rules below apply for both rule sets, in addition to each of their specific rules.
Only the white ball can be hit by the pool cue.
When a player sinks the white ball or hits it out of the pool table (known as a scratch), they have to describe one of their allocated balls.
When the white ball sinks, the next player:
Every player is allocated 1-6 balls randomly, depending on number of players.
The 8 Ball can be allocated to a player and does not need to be sunk last like a traditional game of pool.
Players rotate in the same order all the time. It's recommended to follow the name order on the gameplay screen in the Kelly Pool app, from left to right then top to bottom.
Any/all of these rules must be agreed upon by all players, before commencing each game.
When the white ball is touching a side, you can move the ball out by the width of the bottom of the pool cue.
If the white ball when hit does not touch another ball, that player must describe one of their balls still in play and the next player gets 2 shots.
Players stop playing all of their balls are no longer in play (applies to Last Man Standing only).
If people pair up in teams of 2, they must alternate each time it is their teams turn.
The aim is to sink all of your allocated ball numbers into any of the pockets around the pool table, before anyone else does.
If all of your allocated balls sink into any of the outside pockets before anyone else, you win.
Aim is to be the last player to have an allocated ball number still on the pool table. This does not include any balls on the table that are not allocated to anyone.
If you lose all of your allocated ball numbers, you are eliminated.
Either rule set is ideal for small groups.
If you are using the Sink Balls You Win rule set, you should consider allocating more than 1 ball each to extend the game time.
Either rule set is ideal for large groups.
For 6 or 7 players under the Sink Balls You Win rule set, you will want to allocate 2 balls each to extend game time.
For 8+ players, you will want to consider the Last Man Standing rule set, to extend game time.
There are no set steps/rules on how to determine the player order or who goes first.
The only rule is that the player order has to be followed for the entire game, accommodating for eliminated players when playing Last Man Standing.
No, the white ball cannot be allocated to a player. as its designed to be the cue ball
The purpose of the white/cue ball is to be hit each time, to allow the game to progress.
When the white ball sinks, the next player:
Yes, the black 8 ball can be allocated to any player like any number.
Unlike a traditional pool table game, the 8 ball can be sunk into any pocket at anytime during the game, for either rule set.
All of the specialised rules above are each optional.
These rules have been included above, to give you ideas for any additional rules you might want to put in place.
All that is required is that all players agree to all specialized rules that will apply to each game.
The player can either continue to play or stop entirely after beign eliminated.
This is a choice you as a group can decide upon, before starting the game.
